A new video released by Institute of General Practice Management (IGPM), to celebrate the inaugural National Practice Manager Day, shines a light on the often under-recognised but essential role of practice managers in delivering high-quality patient care and answers the question – What is a Practice Manager?
This campaign video brings together voices from across the NHS general practice team, offering a grounded perspective on how practices operate behind the scenes. Underpinned by research which clearly demonstrates the significant impact of the role of the Practice Manager, and their positive effect on patient outcomes*, the video shares an insight into the coordination, leadership, and operational expertise required to keep services running smoothly.
At the heart of the film is the message that Practice Managers are central to modern general practice. From managing staff and finances to ensuring compliance and supporting patient care delivery, their role is both complex and critical.
Often overlooked as a career choice and under-represented in the media, the IGPM hopes this film will raise awareness of the profession and encourage greater recognition of the skills and leadership that Practice Managers bring to the NHS.
The campaign is part of IGPM’s ongoing efforts to champion the profession, support workforce development, and promote excellence in practice management across the UK.
