Supporting workforce challenges

We were pleased to attend the launch of the General Practice Nurse Pay Survey 2026 today.

While the report focuses on the general practice nursing workforce, the challenges and opportunities it highlights affect the whole of general practice.

It was important that practice management was represented in the room. Practice managers are responsible for turning policy into practice, supporting recruitment and retention, developing teams, managing resources and helping services adapt to meet the changing needs of patients and communities.

Conversations about the future workforce cannot be held in professional silos. Sustainable solutions require collaboration between all parts of the practice team and a recognition that high quality patient care depends on many professions working together.

We were proud that IGPM was able to bring the voice of practice management to the discussion and contribute to a conversation about the future of general practice as a whole.

As neighbourhood health services develop, it is essential that all professions have a seat at the table. The best outcomes will come from working together, respecting each profession’s contribution and keeping the needs of patients and communities at the centre of decision making.
