Introducing revalidation for Members of the Institute of General Practice Management

2026 marks five years from the launch of the IGPM’s professional register for managers working in General Practice – the only recognised and academically developed accreditation in the UK.

Widely acknowledged by external stakeholders, including NHSE and CQC, as the gold standard in practice management, we are pleased to introduce the revalidation element of MIGPM.  This is an important process that reinforces the standards of our role and supports members to remain committed to their ongoing development, learning and professionalism.

The IGPM hold the only recognised register for our profession, ensuring that members meet high standards of practice, competence, and continuous development. Revalidation takes place every five years, and there’s no need to track dates as we will contact you when you’re due.

Revalidation is free and included as part of your accredited membership fee. To prepare, members should continue to log all CPD activity and ensure they have up-to-date appraisals, supported by our appraisal toolkit.

This process strengthens our collective voice and reinforces our position that external regulation is unnecessary. We already have a robust and proportionate framework, tailored to the unique nature of practice management, which clearly demonstrates our commitment to accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.

Revalidation reflects both the professionalism of our members and the strength of our existing framework.

Our team will be in touch when your revalidation is due.

For all existing MIGPMs, we will shortly be sending you a CPD Log to support you in recording your ongoing development.
