Kay is the Practice Manager at Urban Village Medical Practice in Manchester, a city centre GP surgery with a strong social conscience and a diverse, often marginalised patient population. She leads a multidisciplinary team working across primary care, community support and outreach services, ensuring the practice is both clinically safe and compassionate to its community. The practice specialises in providing Primary Care Medical Services to the homeless population of Manchester city centre as well as the people who are housed.
With a background in both operational management and patient engagement, Kay brings a pragmatic and people first approach to leadership. She is known for championing equity, improving access, and navigating the day-to-day complexity of general practice with calmness and humour.
As Chair of the Institute of General Practice Management (IGPM), Kay is a passionate advocate for the recognition and professionalisation of practice management across the UK. She regularly speaks on behalf of practice managers at national policy forums, including the Health and Social Care Select Committee, and plays a key role in developing tools, guidance and peer support through the IGPM’s work.
Kay believes that the heart of general practice lies in strong leadership behind the scenes and that practice managers are the glue that hold it all together. She often says that while one practice manager might know fifty percent of the job, it takes a group of practice management professionals to understand the whole job. Collaboration, peer support and shared learning sit at the centre of her approach to leadership.
